Review by hotel critic
Nestled in a prime location just a stone’s throw from central Wanaka, the Wanaka View offers a solid blend of comfort and convenience for those visiting this picturesque region. With the lake and expansive park just across the street, you’re surrounded by stunning mountain vistas that add to the experience. We opted for a studio room equipped with a kitchenette, allowing us to prepare our meals—a real bonus for families like ours who want to balance dining out with staying in. The sitting area was a welcome touch for winding down after days filled with outdoor adventures, providing the perfect spot to relax with a cup of tea. Pip, the host, was resourceful and shared insights into local activities, which enhanced our experience. We found the laundry facilities handy, especially after a day of skiing. The overall cleanliness of the room was commendable, and a flat-screen TV provided entertainment during quieter evenings. In terms of value, the Wanaka View strikes a decent balance; you’re not splurging on high-end accommodation, but the comforts provided certainly meet the needs of active families. Just be mindful to plan ahead, especially during peak seasons.
